Word in Hand: Spoken Word in Sydney on 3 June 2014
Perth-based award-winning poet Tineke Van der Eecken plus...
Rainee Lyleson, singer-songwriter and storyteller who uncannily channells Joni Mitchell. Tineke Van der Eecken (WA) brings a global perspective to poetry. She weaves stories from Europe and Africa, laced with foreign languages. Her multi-lingual poetry won the Karen W Treanor Award and the Festival Award at the Ubud Writers Poetry Slam in 2011. Her poems are published in Famous Reporter, Blackmail Press and Going Down Swinging, and captured on a new CD and booklet ‘Language’, available at Word in Hand on 3 June. Sydney based singer-songwriter, actress, poet and guitarist Rainee is gaining attention for her captivating stage performances. Described as having an “essence, connection and purity beyond her years”, Rainee continues to innovate, determined to defy the rules of genre. Her influences range from jazz to blues and folk; the resulting music combines Rainee’s soft spot for simple vintage sounds with her love for modern improvisation. Rainee’s seamless voice invokes both a sensitivity and a strength. Her vocal subtlety lends itself to the intimacy of her lyrics; touching on themes of love, growth and personal reflection. Rainee delivers a unique experience that few artists are capable of: skill, authenticity and connection. With the success of her one-woman show Take Me As I Am: An Evening with Joni Mitchell, Rainee will continue to tour both in her own right and in the shoes of the famous Canadian songbird. Her highly anticipated debut EP of original music, Raven will be released in August this year.
“Rainee is a rare jewel amidst the transience and trends of modern music, an artist that is bound for dizzying heights."
